Locally produced—on Gotland!
All manufacturing takes place in the parish of Boge on Gotland, right on the southern outskirts of the town of Slite. Here you’ll also meet our talented artisans, who ensure that the products meet the quality standards we promise. Although all our products start as wool yarn in a knitting machine, they aren’t finished until they’ve passed through the hands of skilled artisans. Often, several of us are involved before the product reaches its place on the store shelf. Did you know that it takes eight manual steps before a sock is finished!? Separating, turning, toe-seaming, washing/drying, shaping, trimming, pairing, and packaging/labeling. This means that—after knitting—we handle each sock and work on it eight times. There’s a lot of love in our socks!
The fabrics for clothing and accessories are knitted on flatbed knitting machines. After knitting, the fabrics are washed and dried, then laid out “by the thread” to rest before being cut by hand, one piece at a time. The pieces are then sewn together to form the finished garment. Usually, the same seamstress sews the entire garment and therefore has to move around to different sewing machines and pressing tables before the garment is complete. This is because an industrial sewing machine can only make one type of stitch. It therefore takes 3–6 sewing machines to complete a garment.
We also have a rather special knitting machine that can handle slightly more advanced knitting, such as mittens, hats, and scarves. It can knit a complete pair of fingerless gloves in 40 minutes! That’s hard to beat with five knitting needles! However, before the gloves are ready for sale, we have to trim the threads, wash and dry them, shape them, inspect them, and package and label them.
We’re a small-scale manufacturer with a wide product range. In total, we produce around 2,000 unique items. Many of our products come in several different colors and sizes, so there’s quite a lot to keep track of when it comes to production and inventory management.
